Mid Century Abstracted Bronze Sculpture of Robed Female; Signed
Description:
An abstract figural sculpture in bronze on black marble base. The figure is of a standing woman in flowing robes and bears the inscription "R. Varo". The piece is likely not by the Spanish Surrealist artist, Remedios Varo, as she was a painter with few examples of work outside this medium. However, the piece bears resemblance to the flowing clothes and angular features of the figures depicted throughout her oeuvre and may be another artist's sculptural interpretation of her works; though it may also be a piece done by an unknown artist named R. Varo with no connection to Remedios Varo or her work beyond the coincidental. Regardless, the piece is expertly sculpted with a rich, deep patina.
