A circa 1940's carved and painted wooden mask, inspired by traditional styles used by the Dan People of Liberia and small parts of the Ivory Coast, on a wooden stand. The mask is constructed of stained wood, carved and embellished with red paint and raffia. These expressive masks, known as 'gle' or 'ge,' were worn during the traditional tribal masquerades, to embody supernatural spirits. In overall good vintage condition, wear consistent with age and use.
