An antique sculptural table lamp, produced circa 1890 by the famous Bergmann Foundry of Vienna, Austria, headed at this time by Franz Xaver Bergmann (1861-1936), the manufacturer best known for the production of Orientalist style, cold-painted decorative bronze figures; this highly unique lamp, often described as a 'Boudoir Lamp,' in reference to its soft, lovely illumination, perfectly captures late 19th Century Europe's perspective and aesthetic fascination with Middle Eastern cultures. Depicted are two Arab men, one seated and smoking a pipe, the other, looking on, seemingly just entered this scene from what appears to be a canonically Islamic building facade, beneath a highly detailed, green canopy and a minaret tower; when switched on (via pull chain), light permeates through the bracketed window and doorway openings, creating an exotic, whimsical effect. Markings include engraved [Made in Vienna], as well as the Bergman hallmark ('B' inside an urn). Very good antique condition, consistent with age and prior use, requires one candelabra base bulb.
