An abstract framed and matted woodblock color print entitled 'Fantasy in Blue' no. 3, signed and dated by Japanese artist Hideo Hagiwara, depicting lilac toned rectangular forms, which stand out sharp and geometric against a field of blue-gray spatter. Markings include [Hideo Hagiwara -62] [Fantasy in Blue (3)] and [1/30] in graphite. This work of art remains in very good condition, consistent with age. Hideo Hagiwara, born 1913 in Kofu City, Japan Yamanishi Prefecture, is considered one of the most influential Japanese 20th Century artists and woodblock print artists of modern era. The artist only took up woodblock printing after 20 years spent as a painter in the 1950s, experimenting with abstract styles and new printmaking techniques. Locations of Hagiwara’s collections include the Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art, Prefectural Museums of Miyagi, Tochigi, Yamanashi, Wakayama, Oita, Toyama, Hiroshima, and Tokushima, the Carnegie Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art, the New York Public Library, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C, the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, Amsterdam Museum of Art, Sao Paulo Museum of Modern Art, Ljubljana, Rijeka, Scopjye, Krakow, Vienna, and Dresden Museums of Modern Art.
