Russian-born artist Bernard Simon (1896-1980) immigrated to the United States as a teenager, where he studied and began his formal fine art career. Works of art by Simon have been exhibited in several American art museums, including the Whitney Museum, and the Museum of Natural History. This wonderful abstract sculpture depicts serene female faces and forms, elegantly carved and polished, emerging from the rough jagged stone, mounted on a black cube base. Markings include the artist’s signature [B. Simon] to the bottom of the sculpture. This art piece remains in excellent vintage condition, wear to base consistent with age.
