Henry Clarence Pitz (American, 1895-1976) "Dancers Backstage" Oil on canvas Signed lower left Sight: Height 30"X width 22" Framed: Height 39"X width 31" American artist Henry Clarence Pitz, born 1895 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, had a budding interest in art from an early age, going on to attend the Philadelphia Museum College of Art in 1914-1918, and the Spring Garden Institute. Following his services in the Army Medical Corps during World War I, he went on to become a published illustrator as well as author of over 160 books. As a painter, his uniquely expressionistic works portrayed a broad range of scenes and narratives. In this painting are three figures, identified as dancers, set in the crowded backstage space, their posture natural and unrehearsed, unlike how they would appear before an audience. Markings include [Henry C. Pitz] to the lower left corner. Despite presence of wear to the canvas, this painting remains in good condition.

The noted height is to the finial, the height to the top of the glass body is 29″. This lamp is in excellent vintage condition, wear consistent with age and use. Fully restored with all new wiring and hardware, including a double socket cluster. Please note the shade is for display only.

A sculpture of a woman by an unknown artist in hand-carved wood, the natural inclusions giving this piece a highly organic, raw appearance. The figure, one hand resting on her chest, the other raised over her head, looks past the viewer's space and into the distance. Despite natural cracking to wood and presence of chips, this sculpture remains in good condition, consistent with age.

Barbara Quackenbush split time between Harrisonburg, Virginia and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University and continued her artistic training at George Washington University and the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. and exhibited locally an nationally throughout her career. She passed away in 2012.
