Art Nouveau Bronze and Terracotta Egyptian Burial Mask

9750 USD
$9,750.00

Description:

A sculpture of an Egyptian funerary mask, possibly French in origin, produced in the early 1900s, with classically rendered bronze face, inset against a glazed green and blue terracotta headdress, with a coiling cobra in bronze as finial, set on a wood base, with a decorative carved scarab. This western approach to Egyptian antiquity, rendered within the Art Nouveau style, was likely reactive to the surging intrigue in ancient burial sites, highly influential to early 20th century styles and fashion. Markings include the artist's monogrammed signature and the date [1909], carved into the back of the headdress. Good vintage condition, with some age appropriate wear, patina and cracking to the original wooden base.
