The large abstracted sculpture of head of a bearded man, created by Vienna-born artist Egon Weiner (1906-1987), in patinated bronze, a representation of an expressive exaggerated face, with eyes closed, and head gently bowed. After fleeing Austria, then annexed by Nazi Germany, Artist Egon Weiner arrived in Chicago in 1938 and established himself as a studio artist, as well as a professor of the School of the Art Institute, Weiner worked on various public and private commissions including 'The Pillar of Fire', which commemorates the Great Chicago fire of 1871, now located at the Chicago Fire Academy. Markings include the artist's signature [E. WEINER]. In overall very good condition, wear and patina consistent with age.
