A decorative shell and canvas tribal helmet mask attributed to the Kuba people of the Congo, c. 20th century or earlier. Possibly a “Bwoom” or royal mask, it is ornately detailed with shells, beads and snakeskin. The Kuba people used these masks for initiation ceremonies and funerals. In good condition with minor lifting and loss to snakeskin. Dimension taken with mask settled on flat surface.
