Signed lower left; signed and titled "Over Tashkent" on verso.

A fine art painter whose styles ranged from Impressionism, Fauvism to mixed-media abstraction, Louis Bassi Siegriest had a long, distinguished career including association with the Society of the Six, an avant-garde group of artists who painted outdoors, socialized, and exhibited together in and around Oakland, California in the 1910s and 1920s. Named "the grand old man of California art" by art historian Nancy Boas, Siegriest painted Western landscapes, including Nevada ghost towns and cityscapes. His artwork can be seen at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
