Designer Name: Adrian Pearsall
Born-Died: 1925 – 2011
Style: Bold, modern geometrical designs and free-flowing forms are idiosyncratic characteristics of Adrian Pearsall’s furniture designs.
Materials Used: Adrian Pearsall loved using walnut and many of his modern designs are fashioned from this durable, rich wood.
History: Adrian Pearsall’s designs are very recognizable. He was very fond of modern shapes and lines juxtaposed with more traditional walnut wood in order to create very modern and lavish designs, often in geometric shapes. Although he graduated from the University of Illinois as an architect he remained in that field for only two years. Pearsall then went on to open his own business- Craft Associates- and received recognition for his creative designs very quickly.
Unlike many other designers, he started out creating furniture in his basement and selling it from the back of his truck to only a few department stores. However, his name became well known and his brand soon grew. He gave his creativity free reign, which allowed him to create bold and free-form furniture. He is well known for his most iconic pieces: the Gondola sofas and the high-backed chairs of the 1950’s and 1960’s.
