Style: Baker Furniture was renowned for designing and manufacturing reproduction furniture, more especially Georgian furniture. Baker Furniture also had a number of great name modernist designers under their wings, including Finn Juhl. Some of their works included furniture that was inspired by Asian cultures.
Materials Used: Golden oak, leather, brass and bamboo
History: Baker Furniture was a family business, and although it was controlled for many years by Siebe Baker, a founder of the original business of Cook, Baker & Co., it wasn’t until 1915 when he became the sole owner. The business presidency was passed to his son after his death in 1925. It was then that the business blossomed as his son, Hollis S. Baker, Sr., expanded its manufacturing capabilities as well as the company. He opened a series of exclusive showrooms and shops where he showcased the beautiful reproduction furniture. Frank Van Steenberg became the president of the company in 1953, and then in 1961 the company was again headed by another member of the Baker family, Hollis M. Baker, Jr.
