Designer Name: Giuseppe Scapinelli
Born-Died: 1891 - 1982
Style: Scapinelli’s style was functional. He preferred soft, curved features for his furniture, rather than hard edges.
Materials Used: Brazilian traditional wood, Jacaranda wood, glass, and marble
History: Brazilian designer Giuseppe Scapinelli enjoyed relative anonymity compared to other designers of his time. He loved to design functional tables, chairs and other furniture using soft curves and hard woods. He opened a shop in Sao Paolo, which he filled with his own designs. He continued to use this outlet to sell his work beyond the 1950’s. However, his notoriety spread and eventually his design work received the recognition it deserved, when in 2010 his work was featured in the “Brazilian Modern” exhibition. Since that time many demands have ben made for his pieces.
At Showplace, we just love Giuseppe Scapinelli’s work, and we endeavor to collect as many pieces as we can. This designer deserves a greater accolade than he has received, and we are proud to display many of his important pieces.
