Designer Name: Liceu De Artes & Oficios (a.k.a. The School of Arts and Crafts of São Paulo)
Specialized In: Fine Art and Furniture
History: Liceu De Artes & Oficios was established in 1873 by a group of elite coffee aristocrats. Their initial intentions were to utilize the school in order to form a specialized set of laborers that would be able to thrive in the impending industrialization of the country. The institution initially held the name "Propagator Society for People Instruction" and did not facilitate professional education.
After adopting its current name, the institution focused on design, casting, lock-smithing, carpentry and other fields. Well known architect Francisco de Paula Ramos de Azevedo directed the Liceu in 1890. Some notable designs include a huge chandelier "Teatro Municipal de São Paulo" as well as ornaments shaped by the school's apprentices called "Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo."
