History of designer: Paul Evans was a talented American furniture designer, sculptor, and artist. He studied different sculpting techniques in various institutions before moving to New Hope, Pennsylvania, where he worked together with Phillip Loyd Powell. They formed a wonderful alliance and created sculptures of wood and metal.
In 1964, Paul Evans was appointed as head designer for Directional Furniture, and it was here that he popularized several lines of their furniture lines, including the Argente Series and the Cityscapes series. He had a very artistic way of being able to adapt techniques from the shipbuilding industry and this allowed him to produce some brilliant large-scale pieces.
In 1981, he branched out on his own and opened his own showroom in New York City. However, he retired in 1987. He died at the early age of 56, two days after he sold his business and retired
