Gustave Penzyna Ecole de Paris French Expressionist Still Life Oil Painting

Description:

French Expressionist still life oil painting, created by Polish-French artist Gustave Penzyna (1882-1938) in his Paris atelier on 16 Rue du Saint Gothard in 1928.

Penzyna was born in Poland (then part of the Russian Empire) to French-Moldavian parents and became a draftsman, sculptor and painter and was a member of the first Ecole de Paris. After his death his atelier was sold at the Drouot auction house in 1939, which created a large public interest in his work. His untimely death right before the outbreak of the Second World War prevented his oeuvre to achieve a higher status of recognition among his peers and the general public in France and abroad.

The painting is signed in the lower right corner " G PENZYNA" and is in great vintage condition. Signed, dated and marked with old gallery label on the back.
