Artist Agnes Millen Richmond (American, 1870–1964), born in Alton, Illinois, began studying painting at the St. Louis School of Fine Arts, continuing at the Arts Students League, following her relocation to New York in 1888; she eventually became an instructor there, from 1910-1914. Within that period, she was awarded the Watrous Prize in 1911 and would be recognized as one of the most esteemed American woman painters and teachers of the early 20th Century.
