Meiji Period Japanese Tiger and Snake Bronze Sculpture

$7,500.00

Description:

A mid-19th century Meiji period Japanese bronze sculpture represents a ferocious tiger and serpent, engaged in deadly combat. The beasts are rendered in great detail: acid etching stripes applied to the tiger, the snake scales visible along its curling body. Markings include the artist's signature, applied to the underside of the tiger. In overall very good condition, wear is consistent with age and includes patina to the bronze surface.
