$12,000.00

Description:

This Musha Ningyo (Boys' Day Figure) is very rare for its size. An early example made in the Gosho and Iki Ningyo style, these figures first made their appearance in the late 19th century for Boys Day. Musha Ningyo is shown with his characteristic ruddy complexion. This example holds an ax and dons an embroidery brocade that features a mythical turtle. Musha Ningyo is similar to Hercules in Japanese culture. This piece has minor restorations to the ax but is in good condition with age appropriate wear.
