Russian Wooden Double-Postage Stamp Box From 1940s

200 USD
$200.00

Description:

This box is intricately hand-carved in a primitive style. This is one of the light-industry items which the Soviet Union began to export to the West in the first years after the WWII, in the late 1940's. Its lower part appearance slightly resembles of a normal old-fashioned school pencil case. Two large long-beaked birds on its edges face each other and decorate the top. Each of the birds actually serves as a knob of the sliding cover for the stamp compartment, hidden underneath it.

Good vintage condition.
