Helene Sardeau (Belgian-American, 1899-1968) Art Deco cast bronze sculpture of a jazz singer, signed and dated 1928 with mark from the Valsuani foundry in Paris.
A cast of this sculpture was exhibited at the 1928 Salon d'Automne in Paris, where Sardeau studied during the 1920s. In 1931 she married the American artist George Biddle and moved to New York where she studied under Mahonri Young (American 1877-1957). Sardeau's first major commission was "Slave", a six foot limestone African American man created for the sculpture garden in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia
