Modern oil on canvas painting of a still life with potted roses, painted by famed Modernist British fashion designer and artist Edward Henry Molyneux (London 1891-Monte Carlo 1974).
Molyneux painted throughout his life and had exhibitions of his paintings at the Galerie Weill in Paris (between 1950–1956) and at the Hammer Galleries in New York (1967). Here, 'Carnations in Vase' was purchased by the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, and 'Roses in Glass' by actress Greta Garbo. Molyneux had opened his fashion house in Paris in 1919 and expanded to Monte Carlo in 1925, Cannes in 1927, and London in 1932. The designer became known for an impeccably refined simplicity.
This piece is signed and dated on the lower right corner and has its original wood frame. In great vintage condition with age-appropriate wear and use.
