Produced circa 1880s unique antique Japanese four-panel screen in painted paper, decorated with a samurai figure on horseback, inset within a wooden frame. The image portrayed appears to be based on the painted hand-scroll entitled 'Ayusi Scattering Rebels with Upraised Spear' by 18th Century Italian missionary and artist Giuseppe Castiglione (1688–1766), official painter of the Imperial Qing court.
